The Samuel Durfee House is an elegant federal period bed and breakfast inn built in 1803 by banker Samuel Durfee of Providence. This beautifully restored house features period paneling and molding as well as a fan light window above the front door. Conveniently located downtown in Newport's Yachting Village, the Samuel Durfee House is just a block from the harbor and the restaurants and shops on Thames Street and 1 1/2 blocks from Bellevue Avenue with its mansions, shops, and the Tennis Hall of Fame. Enjoy a delicious, gourmet full breakfast each morning in the sitting room or back patio. Specialties of the house include Portuguese Sweet Bread French Toast, Swiss Cheese Pie, Eggs Frittatta, and Raspberry Pecan Pancakes. Newport Coffee Traders Gourmet Coffee, fresh fruit, home baked bread and a variety of juices also complement the scrumptious breakfast. Each afternoon you will find a delicious treat, coffee and tea in the sitting room. Guests enjoy relaxing in the elegant sitting room while reading the daily newspaper or one of the many books or magazines about Newport. In the summer months, the back patio is a lovely retreat. Complimentary off-street parking is provided.
Each of the beautifully appointed guest rooms has been uniquely decorated and feature period furnishings and fine reproductions. | 352 Spring Street, Newport, RI From T.F. Green International Airport: Take I-95 South to Exit 9 (Route 4). Follow Route 4 South, it will narrow and merge with Route 1. Continue approximately 1/2 mile to the exit for 138 East (Newport Bridge). After crossing the Newport Bridge, take the Scenic Route Exit, turning right at the end of the ramp onto Farewell Street. At the second set of lights, make a right onto America's Cup Avenue. Continue through the downtown area. Make a right onto Thames Street (The Red Parrot Restaurant will be on the corner). You will make a left turn onto Pope Street (on the corner is a black and white striped awning-Gary's Handy Lunch). Make a left turn onto Spring Street. The Samuel Durfee House will be on the right side of the street, across from Howard Street. The driveway is to the left of the house.
