Location. Woodlands Inn of Sapphire is located near the border of the Nantahala National Forest and the Pisgah National Forest in the heart of the Western North Carolina Mountains, in Sapphire, N.C. Designated the "Land of the Waterfalls," there are over 250 waterfalls in the immediate area. Whitewater Falls is only nine miles away. Hiking and horseback riding are available nearby in the Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as fishing, swimming, boating, tubing, kayaking and canoeing in the many lakes, streams and rivers. The Sapphire Valley Ski Area and Gorges State Park are less than two miles away.
Hotel Features. This bed and breakfast offers an outdoor pool with a sundeck against the backdrop of the mountains. There is a play area for the kids, and picnic area with barbecue grills, where friends and family can get together. The Inn serves a complimentary hearty breakfast featuring homemade baked goods, omelets, waffles and fresh fruit.
Guestrooms. Each guestroom at Woodlands Inn of Sapphire is individually decorated with different colors and styles, including violets, sunflowers, ivy with morning glories, golf, ducks and patriotic. Some guestrooms have wonderful views,and brass, iron or wicker beds. All guestrooms are air conditioned, have a private bath, and come complete with television, coffeemaker and refrigerator.
Expert Tip. The Whitewater Falls, the highest waterfall east of the Rockies, is nearby. The upper falls plunge 411 feet and the lower falls drops another 400 feet. For an excellent view of the falls, there are two overlooks. There is a paved walkway to the upper overlook, which is wheelchair accessible. The lower overlook is at the bottom of 154 wooden steps. This wild land receives few visitors because of its rugged terrain, where a rich array of wildflowers, ferns, mosses and fungi abound.
